Today's mission was to remove the remaining half of the Bramble Bush, and create something to store our tools in as we don't have a shed on our plot, and clear some of the grasslands!
I tackled the Bramble Bush, it was everywhere! And each time I thought I'd cut the last piece away, like magic another would appear, however I think I cleared all of it in the end.
Linds had bought a battery Strimmer down, to try and tidy the area up and clear some of the grass. It wasn't robust enough for in-between our beds, as the grass has grown so dense and long particularly in this area, but it tidied up other areas of the plot where it wasn't so thick.
Linds also made a storage holder for our tools , (got to love a pallet, they have so many uses) . Eventually we will get a small shed but that's at the lower end of our priority list, we can make do perfectly fine without one for the time being.
Soph had her best visit yet, she went on a bug hunt, and we found countless ladybirds whilst clearing the Bramble. This led to the need for a bug hotel (but of course) , so with a pallet (told you, endless uses) , twigs, moss, and raked up grass , the Cundy Bug Hotel establishment is now up and running and welcoming guests.
Just to highlight that this really is a plot full of treasure, among some rotting wood and brambles we discovered 3 bags of multi purpose compost , unopened!! That in itself has paid for our allotment for the next 5 years. When moving the compost bags we uncovered a field mouse who had made a little home for itself , it quickly scurried away, but it was great to be able to get up close to the nest, another first for us all. We left the nest as it was found and returned the compost bags , in the hopes she/he will return home.
Jake was kept content with a running ensemble of the Teletubbies, snacks and his sister who offered him up close encounters with the insects she found.
We stepped back and could see a real visual difference today and that felt rewarding, the space is so much clearer now , after just a few hours of hard work. It really shows how much you can achieve when you put yourself into it. As we left today I said "my heart feels full and my mind feels lighter", I've had a couple of anxiety led day's and being here with my family, breathing in nature's free medicine , hearing the birds , feeling the sun on my face untied the knots and I felt happy and content as we walked home.
